Urinary tract infection (UTI) in pregnant woman

I’ve not heard about it until I read an article of it. It seems that pregnant woman have an increased risk to urinary tract infection, or UTI. This is due to the changes in the organs part in the body once conceived. The uterus is located on top of the bladder and as the uterus grows, its increased size and weight can block the drainage of urine from the bladder, adding risk to infection.

How one would know if there is UTI presence? Well, there are home test kit available in the local pharmacies but take note that it would not be 100% accurate and if you are suffers from the symptoms of UTI, then it’s best to seek for medical advice.

Common symptoms of UTI:

    1. Pain or burning (discomfort) when urinating
    1. The need to urinate more often than usual
    1. A feeling of urgency when you urinate
    1. Cramps or pain in the lower abdomen
    1. Waking up from sleep to urinate
    1. Urine that looks cloudy, smells foul or unusually strong
    1. Chills, fever, sweats, leaking of urine (incontinence)
    1. When bacteria spreads to the kidneys you may experience: back pain, chills, fever, nausea, and vomiting.
