Chinese director Feng Xiaogang’s first martial arts film "The Banquet" debuted grandly in Beijing on September 9th amid both critics and recognition.
Some Beijing audience said the traditional language in the movie sounded comical and unnatural while others praise it as with everything you could hope from a blockbuster.
With a Chinese dreaming lineup, including Zhang Ziyi, Zhou Xun, Ge You and Hong Kong actor Daniel Wu, the film director Feng Xiaogang is very confident about the box office.
The director said he also eyed the international film market with the help of Zhang Ziyi and martial arts master Yuen Woo-ping.
"Without casting Zhang Ziyi, wether the film is success or not, the film publishers will never show their interests in the film. Whereas, if you have Zhang Ziyi in the lineup, the publishers will care for it, especially when the crew also includs Yuen Woo-ping."
Known as a loose adaptation of "Hamlet", The film depicts an empire in chaos. The emperor, empress and prince all have their own enemies they would like to finish off at a banquet.
The film will be opened across China since 14th September.
