Katya Santos has long accepted the fact that there are some things she can’t change anymore. And she has no choice but to let them be.
“For instance,” the Viva Hotbabe states, “I know I can’t play wholesome roles anymore.”
So this former child star (she started acting in ABS-CBN shows at age nine) is not crying over spilled milk. Instead, she’s targeting something else. Katya wants to show the world she has something more than a sexy body. She wants to prove that even if people see her sizzle in the Skin City video, she can also be a versatile actress.
That’s why she’s excited playing an evil woman obsessed with a renowned plastic surgeon (played by TJ Trinidad) on ABS-CBN’s new series, Sineserye Presents: Hiram na Mukha (also starring Heart Evangelista, Cherry Pie Picache and Geoff Eigenmann).
The role, which Maritoni Fernandez played in the Viva movie of the same title years back, doesn’t require Katya to bare at all. Yes, she dons a two-piece and has a kissing scene, but that’s all. It’s mild, compared to her daring scenes in movies like her launching project Sukdulan which she has now put behind her.
Katya promises her just-released sexy video with fellow Hotbabes marks the last time people will see her in naughty poses. After all, she’s still a Hotbabe, sexy grooves and all. And she will still go with the group when duty calls.
But this time, Katya would rather focus on herself as a solo performer. The career move will totally wean her away from her sexy image of old.
In fact, she’s doing other things besides flaunting her skimpy attire in public. With taping for Hiram na Mukha taking her time only thrice a week, Katya can campaign for Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay, who is seeking re-election.
“It will take just 20 days,” she says.
Her business plans are more long-term. Believe it or not, at 25, Katya is already preparing for showbiz retirement.
As they say, showbiz is not forever. That’s why Katya put up a Mini Stop franchise which she gave to her mom and a courier service.
In June, Katya’s new pizza parlor, a franchise of Woodbridge Pizza, will rise in Kamagong, Makati.
“I first tasted the pizza in Boracay (her favorite vacation place),” recalls Katya. She loved the taste of the pizza — with its big, American size slices — so much Katya asked about franchising at once.
With this, her latest “baby”, Katya expects a return of investment that could tide her over five years from now. That’s why she doesn’t mind forking out money right now. She’s confident her efforts will bear fruit someday.
Helping her out in this area is her boyfriend of two years, a real estate broker two years Katya’s senior. They plan to tie the knot three to four years from now, when Katya sees herself proudly wearing her wedding grown in a ceremony by the beach.
But she will not take the plunge eyes closed.
“I will need savings, lots of it,” she says. “I don’t want to scrimp on my baby, if and when.”
Katya sure knows how to secure a good future, not just for herself, but for those who matter most to her.
