WHEN her boyfriend lost his handphone in a taxi, the Hong Kong television star probably didn’t think much of it.
Then she received an SMS from a stranger.
He threatened to sell a nude video clip of her contained in the phone to the media, unless she paid him HK$50,000 ($10,000).
The blackmailer, Kwok Kam-shing, 41, was yesterday sentenced to 28 months’ jail for extortion and blackmail, reported the South China Morning Post.
The court heard that the 24-year-old actress, who was referred to as Miss A, was filmed topless by her actor boyfriend as she changed her clothes at his home on 13 May. The couple were not identified to protect their privacy.
The 10-second clip was captured on his handphone, which he left in a taxi five days later.
On 2 Jun, Miss A received an SMS from Kwok, who identified himself as ‘Mr Lam’, asking her to contact him if she wanted the phone back. Miss A went straight to the cops.
The police assigned an undercover officer to pose as Miss A’s assistant.
The ‘assistant’ then met with Kwok in the coffee shop of Hotel Nikko on 5 Jun to give him the money.
Kwok was arrested as he left the coffee shop carrying the marked bills.
